What makes people happy? This is a question that has been with me for a long time.
People make people happy. Family, friends, neighbours even strangers. When you see something beautiful, it shows on your face. You want to pass on that feeling. Work makes people happy. Playing makes people happy. Pursuing passions makes people happy. Being in good health is critical to happiness. Good food, good music, places to come together. Discovering new things and experiences is right up there too.
Happiness is in the little things. Happiness isn’t momentary, it’s a state of being. Happiness is not an island. The more you are surrounded by happy people, the greater your chances of being happy. Happiness is a product of all those little things coming together to form a complete environment- an ecosystem. Year after year, papers speak of cities where the people are the happiest- cities like Vienna and Melbourne. These cities are able to provide the right ecosystems for happiness.
“For me and the brilliant team of architects and planners from around the world who shared this dream, it became our magnificent obsession.”
In 2008, I had the rare opportunity to create my idea of a perfect world- my City of Joy. For me and the brilliant team of architects and planners from around the world who shared this dream, it became our magnificent obsession. We had the privilege of learning from the world’s great cities, while avoiding the pitfalls of development that many of them are faced with today.
In 2012, after four years of obsessing over every conceivable detail, from a vacant patch of land emerged Bhartiya City. It’s the greatest joy I have known, and it gives me so much happiness to now share it with each and every one of its first citizens.
